The Restructure of Team Special Scans

As you might have noticed during the past few months things have not been going to smooth around here and it's about time that we do some changes in order to get more effective.

• sanigo will be a project manager from now on. She has managed her own small group for three years and has a lot of experience and good ideas. I will still stick around for a while as well.
  
• We will generally only be working on one Pokémon Special chapter at a time from now on, with the exception of translating (and maybe some minor exceptions), since that takes a while and we are short on translators.
  
• We will start using Trello for managing the division of work. Trello is sort of an online version of post-it notes.
  
• Our main way of communication will be our IRC channel from now on. It's a faster way of communicating and most scanlation and fansubbing groups use IRC. Hopefully it will make our communication more effective and easier. If you don't know how to use IRC check out this guide I made long ago.
  
• I have sent out an e-mail to the staff members who I have not heard anything from for quite a while and asked them if they'd like to be classed as active or inactive, so that we know what our active staff looks like and in order to be more efficient.
  

Sounds good to me; I might also want to point out Trello can be connected to your Google account, so those who have one to send and share chapter files can sign up that way for faster and easier access. Also, what is the name of the board there, or is it something we have to be invited to?
I've been pretty busy lately, so the only time I'm online is late in the evening (EST), but I'll try to make sure to get on Hexchat more often.

Agreed. But I'll just be doing TL work once in a while now, meaning some of the chapters, if I've got the time.
Also, is there a way of viewing chats on the IRC channel when we're offline? Or is it just that no one's been talking?

Oh, I thought you had given up on Pokémon Special. I said that about translation work since there's only you and I love manga who translate and I feel like it would be unnecessary to set limits like with the other positions since the translation part of the project is already pretty limited in manpower.
In other words, work when you want. All I said is that you wont have to wait for the rest of the group before moving on.

If you leave the IRC client on you cn read it later and all chats are locally stored in logs on the users computer.
It's due to time zones. Most of the IRC visitors are from Europe (GMT to GMT+2) and the US (GMT-5 to GMT-8 ) while you live in the GMT+8 time zone. If the time difference is troublesome for you, you can just send stuff via e-mail.

Well, I decided to continue for a bit, but after B2W2 arc, I'd be stopping.
What if I don't leave my computer on? Will the channel be on anyways? I still think that the IRC is better.

The activity on the channel will only be saved in your client and in logs when you are logged in to the channel. And IRC clients have ping timeouts, meaning that if you are away too long from your computer you will be logged out of your channel.
And I agree, IRC is better.

Hi! I didn’t contribute so much here up till now but I’ll try to help as much as I can. For being able to help I need to see how things have been going up till now though, so give me a while to read some threads and stuff.

2. Is it possible to have a list of all active members (after we've contacted everyone) and with what exactly they can do? Also maybe their level of experience. That's kinda the most important thing for me to know.

3. I have no idea what has been done and what needs to be done. Is there a list somewhere where I can see? Or can I see that in the google group? If so, I'll wait until I'm added.

2. Since I can’t see how you worked on everything I can’t help much yet.
But I looked at our releases and they’re alright. Not perfect but it’s perfectly fine for a new group, so continuing like that is no problem.
So I guess the main problem why this isn’t making process is because some people don’t do their work and disappear, is that right?

3. I noticed quality checking is not going so well(???)
Like releasing a chapter with a missing bubble. Could someone tell me how the process of that goes and how stuff like that can happen? Sometimes one person is not enough for QC-ing, everyone in the group should be able to see/read finished chapters and tell what should be improved.

4. I’m totally not able to see what’s going on here and I’ve been here a few times.
I can’t imagine any reader would like to search for chapter downloads and stuff in this chaos...!
Why don’t we publish the finished chapters in a blog, like most other scan groups? It’s simple and every idiot can understand how to navigate it and it's easy to find what they look for.

So, if everyone’s okay with it, I would like to make the first change and move releases to a blog. Work and everything else should stay here and on IRC channels of course. Readers don’t care about the work process and shouldn't be able to see everything as well.

5. Sorry that I’m still so inactive even though I’m kinda important now! I won’t be able to be more active though. I’ll just try to help improve the group slowly so please bear with it!

1. You should be in it. I'll contact the manager of the Google group. You have been added now and one of your e-mail addresses have been given a manager role (the other one was not compatible for it). Now you can do anything with the Google group except for deleting it and making someone owner. So, you can now add future members there.

2. Sound's about right. It's also been a little unclear about who does what and when.

3. Previously we only had one QCer per chapter. We noticed recently that it didn't work so well, sowe decided to have two QCers per chapter from now on.

4. I've thought about that having a WordPress blog could maybe be an idea, but I thought a forum sub-section worked well enough. But now that you point it out, I think it would be good if we got a WordPress blog. I've contacted GamerGoddess (our tech guy) about it.

5. You're a big help. I won't be able to put as much work in this as I would like at the moment either (due to school), so I know how it feels.

Apparently Shogakukan will start releasing full Pokémon Special XY volumes (about 192 pages long) consisting of only half of the XY magazine chapters (the chapters from CoroCoro Ichiban!). Volume 1 comes out in April.
I'm tired of all this cluster-fuck publishing bullshit. I say that we finish the magazine scanlations we have picked up and never do anymore PokéSpe magazine scanlations. Ever.

Will publishing Pokespe chapters stop completely, or are we just going to wait for each volume to come out?

We will still do volumes, just not CoroCoro Ichiban chapters. (Maaaybe Pokémon Fan chapters, once we start having the volume chapters under control.)
We are also trying to set up a dedicated scanlation team that will release chapters on a regular schedule.

As a big Pokespe fan myself, I'm dying to know what happens after the HGSS chapter and I don't want to read the edited VIZ version.

Well, you could maybe help us with getting the magazine chapters we have started with finished, when the time comes.

I recommend that you get the Chuang Yi edition of volume 41+. Much better than the VIZ edition, but far behind (the latest volume is volume 41).

As quiet as things have been on here, I'm really worried that TSS might my dead, which makes me fear for the future of Pokespe.

We have managed to set up the dedicated scanlation team. We're just waiting for the translator to send the first translation.

Well that's good news!   

I talked with the new translator today. He's quite busy this week, but will get to it when he can. I think this new team will be a game changer.

Wonderful! I can't wait for things to start picking up again!
